Suicide prevention matters because every life lost is one we could have protected, and our community has both the power and the responsibility to change the story.
Behind every statistic is a name, a story, and a family forever changed. In 2024, the U.S. lost 48,800 people to suicide, a crisis that remains one of the nation’s leading causes of preventable death. More than half of these deaths involved lethal means, highlighting how access and environment influence risk in ways we can address through awareness, advocacy, and thoughtful prevention efforts. Nationally, the age-adjusted suicide rate remains alarmingly high, underscoring the ongoing need for coordinated prevention efforts across communities.
But this is not just about numbers.
It is about choosing not to look away. It is about speaking up when silence feels easier, reaching out when someone seems off, and advocating for safer systems, accessible care, and compassionate conversations. When we push for prevention, we are standing for hope, dignity, and the belief that every person in our community deserves a chance to stay.
