Summary:
This presentation seeks to equip mental health providers with the tools to support justice-involved veterans. We will examine the demographics and unique challenges these veterans face within the justice system, and we will explore veteran treatment courts, their purpose, structure, and positive outcomes, with a focus on the 4th Judicial District’s Veteran Trauma Court here in Colorado Springs. We will also discuss VA resources for justice involved veterans and VA disability benefits. We will end by outlining treatment considerations and recommendations for collaborating with court and probation staff.
